The Gooseberry is an Endangered Species

The green gooseberry (white)

I have just been reading that there is a very big possibility of the gooseberry disappearing for good due to lack of interest. Some of us can remember the green (white) and red varieties.

I throw down the challenge for us foodies to save this beautiful British fruit. As like many fruits it can be used in a savoury or sweet dish, pickled or used to make preserves and can be served with roast pork instead of apple sauce.
Please forward ideas and recipes for foodies to share and enjoy.

Ask around to see if anybody near you has a gooseberry bush and do they use the fruit, as you could be lucky enough to be offered it for free. Gooseberries can be very expensive to buy if they are stocked at all.
